![]() (which would you buy?) - but perhaps they will have to wait for the A700's replacement next year. Having said that, I think a lot of people would also prefer a full A700 + LV, not cut back A700 with it. The A700's sensor, in a cheaper package, but with the addition of LV. Perhaps that will be the main reason for justifying an A500. And as many were a bit disappointed it wasn't on the A700, and it was always remarked on by reviewers, then they are going to face pressure to come out with a mid-range LV model. So, Sony should/must add LV to the A900 to match the D300/D3 and most likely the 7D. It is quite possible that all but the cheapest DSLRs (A200 competitors) from Canikon announced at PMA will have liveview. I think the challenge for Sony is that live view will increasingly become a "standard" feature. So the A900 will be close on IQ, but will be lacking in AF speed/accuracy etc. From reading the reviews of the D300 and D3, I think Nikon have made some advances in AF with these two cameras, and I think Sony are still playing catchup. Hopefully Sony will do the same, but maybe price the camera similar to the Canon 5D Mark2 (probably a little more), but try and compete with the D3 on IQ. So Nikon are confident that 12MP is more than enough for most people (including Pros), and what people want is better noise control rather than more MP. So looking at the reviews of the Nikon D3, from an IQ point of view, Nikon have just gone after amazing noise (or noiseless) performance at high ISO settings, rather than massive MP. Think Sony will just improve on noise performance, which is easier if you keep the MP the same. The Canon 40D is still 10MP, so unless Sony has decided to chase MP then there is no real reason for the A100 replacement to have 12MP. Not convinced there is a place in the market for the A500, now that the A700 price has dropped so much (A700 Body is now £696 with cashback - pricematching with ABC a lot of A100 owners are expecting the A100 replacement to have the 12MP A700 sensor. Can't guess the full specsĪ900 : Pro 12 or 16MP FF DSLR, RRP of about £1800 (similar to Canon 5D price) 4FPS (£100 cheaper than A700)Ī700 : Prosumer 12MP DSLR, with Mag Alloy body. Companies seem to be avoiding direct comparisons of cameras between brands.Ī200 : Budget 10MP DSLR, to see as cheap as chips.Ī300 : Budget 10MP DSLR (based on A200), but with Liveview and maybe a few other tweaks, like AF tracking focus like KM A1 (£100 more than the A200)Ī500 : 12MP DSLR, similar to the A700 - but with plastic body and a few other bits missing, e.g. Think it's also hard comparing the Sony line up to Canon and Nikon's offerings. ![]() Just several models, based on common platforms offering different functionality and build quality. I don't think there will be a direct replacement for the A100. And the reason why it wasn't included in the A200, as they intend to sell the A200 as cheap as chips (just to get people into the lens mount) as adding Liveview adds cost. ![]() I think the Tilt/Liveview camera will be the same spec as the A200, just with Liveview for people who want it (A300). There's a pic of the A300/500 on engadget The A700 got pretty good reviews, beating the 40D in some comparisons, and up with the D300 in some respects (mainly due to the sensor similarities) Good system thinking.įinally, Sony is proving it is serious about challenging the DSLR market. Every model, even the entry A200, capable of taking a grip too.Īlso, and this can be important to some, it seems that every model can use the same battery and same media cards. Not bad considering they only had the A100 available less than 6 months ago.Īnd remember, all with built-in IS, wireless flash, right across the range. So that will be the A200, A300/500, A700 and A900 all available next month. This has been well known for some time, now it becomes reality. But little is known about the sensor or other specs.Ģ. This looks like an A200 with tiltable Live View. Well, having announced the A200 this week at CES as a new entry level DSLR with a competitive price and feature set and already available for pre-order for feb delivery, it looks like in 2 more weeks time at PMA we will seeġ. ![]()
